MEAN WELL Launches Solar Charity Project to Empower House of Joy in Malaysia with Green Energy

As global energy prices continue to fluctuate and electricity costs rise, many charitable organizations that rely on public support are facing increasing operational challenges. This year, the company further launched a solar charity project by donating an 8kVA solar power system to help reduce the organization's long-term electricity expenses, create a more sustainable care environment through green energy, and support local community development.

Established in 1992, House of Joy is a non-profit welfare organization in Malaysia dedicated to providing shelter, care, and training for orphans, underprivileged children, teenagers, and the elderly. Today, it operates eight residential homes across the country. In recent years, rising energy costs have become an increasing financial burden, with the organization consuming approximately 1,800kWh of electricity per month, resulting in a monthly electricity bill of around MYR $1,000. With the newly installed solar power system, House of Joy is expected to save approximately MYR $550 per month, reducing its monthly electricity expenses to around MYR $450. The project will significantly ease long-term operating costs while providing a more stable and sustainable energy supply for the organization.
The donation project features a 10.08kWp solar power system comprising 16 PV-SST-630 bifacial solar modules and four PV-SMI-2000A grid-tied microinverters, with an 8kWac AC output capacity. The system is expected to generate approximately 967.68 kWh of electricity per month. Following the successful completion of the site survey, grid connection approval, and system installation, the project was officially commissioned in August 2026, providing House of Joy with a reliable and clean source of renewable energy.
Beyond this solar power donation, MEAN WELL Malaysia has continued to support House of Joy through grocery donations, children's educational outings, and various community outreach activities over the years. By leveraging its expertise in energy technologies, the company is now bringing renewable energy into the charitable sector, helping establish a long-term energy-saving mechanism for the organization. This initiative transforms charitable giving from one-time assistance into a sustainable solution that creates lasting social value while strengthening the resilience and long-term sustainability of welfare organizations.
